Before you start

Get what you need before you start

  • Choose representative stocked and preorder products, locations, profiles, destinations, and expected ship dates.
  • Record the intended customer choices, charge owner, fulfilment capacity, and support wording.
  • Use an organisation-approved ChatGPT workspace. Upload only reviewed catalogue and configuration fields; exclude names, contact details, addresses, payment data, credentials, and external customer or order references.
  • Confirm whether the current checkout supports split shipping for this store.

Steps

Work through the method

Use the listed inputs and tools. Check the evidence when you need to verify a step.

  1. Map why the cart may split

For every test product, record availability date, location, purchase option, market, package needs, fulfilment owner, the market shipping option, and any applicable profile. Predict the shipment groups, buyer controls, and charges.

Why it matters: The map exposes which store conditions create separate shipment groups before checkout is tested.

    Input
Product, inventory, location, profile, purchase-option, package, and route data.
    Output
A reviewed product-to-shipment map with predicted groups, dates, charges, and Unknown fields.

    Evidence for this step

  2. Run the checkout matrix

Test stocked-only, preorder-only, mixed, multiple-location, multiple-profile, unavailable, and representative destination carts. Capture groups, choices, dates, rates, wording, and order records.

Why it matters: The store may support different options from the merchant assumption or the reported community example.

    Input
The shipment map, approved test matrix, safe test accounts, and current checkout.
    Output
Observed checkout evidence for every case with predicted differences marked.

  3. Choose the supported promise

Select the tested route the operation can fulfil. Record whether items wait or ship separately, available buyer choices, who pays, promised dates, exceptions, and when mixed carts must be blocked.

Why it matters: A useful promise must match checkout capability, stock timing, cost, and fulfilment capacity.

    Input
Checkout evidence, cost ownership, inventory timing, fulfilment capacity, and customer policy.
    Output
A signed shipment plan with supported routes, wording, exceptions, and stop conditions.

  4. Rehearse fulfilment and updates

Process each test order through its shipment groups. Check picking, holds, labels, notifications, partial fulfilment, later release, cancellation, and customer-support context.

Why it matters: The customer promise fails when the order record cannot guide the team through each shipment.

    Input
The signed plan, test orders, fulfilment checklist, notification templates, and support route.
    Output
A passed fulfilment record or a blocked route with exact operational gaps.

Success checks

Check the result before you finish

  • The product map predicts shipment groups from current store conditions.
  • Checkout evidence covers stocked, preorder, mixed, location, profile, availability, and destination cases.
  • The approved promise states choices, dates, charges, exceptions, and stop conditions.
  • Fulfilment and notifications process every group without guessing.

Failure modes

Watch for these problems

  • The plan assumes a combine choice that checkout does not show. Remove the promise and choose a tested route.
  • The displayed charge has no agreed owner. Hold launch until the merchant or buyer responsibility is explicit.
  • A later group releases early. Repair the fulfilment hold and repeat the rehearsal.
  • The order record hides shipment context from support. Add a supported view or block the route.
